LIZZIE Jones – widow of tragic Keighley Cougars star Danny – has been shortlisted for a top award.

She is among the finalists in the national St John Ambulance Everyday Heroes awards.

Mrs Jones has won through in the ‘first aid champion’ category for her campaign to get defibrillators into rugby league clubs throughout the country.

The project, run in conjunction with the RFL Benevolent Fund, has already raised enough money for more than 30 clubs to receive the lifesaving devices.

Mrs Jones started her campaign following the death of her 29-year-old husband, who collapsed during a match in May last year. He was later found to have a hereditary heart condition.

“To be able to help save others through my beautiful man’s memory is so very precious to me,” she said.

“Danny was so special and already hasn’t died in vain.”

The awards will be presented at a ceremony in London on September 7.
