SCOTT Clapham made the most of an early escape to thrash a century as Bishopthorpe powered into the semi-finals of the HPH Cup.

Bish were on the ropes at 38-4 after 20 overs against Kelfield who then dropped Clapham.

He cashed in by passing 50 in 51 balls before cutting loose with a brutal display of hitting. From his next 30 balls he added a further 79 runs, racking up 11 sixes and seven fours.

Clapham hit his personal best 129 from just 81 deliveries. He shared a partnership of 101 with James Mackie (31) and propelled the hosts to 227-8. Craig Lawson was Kelfield's best bowler with 4-58. Kelfield were bowled out for 99.

Burn carried their good league form into the cup with a 39-run win against Clifton Alliance whose Steve Bygott took 5-27 as the first division side had to settle for 170-8.

Tom Cobley blew away Clifton’s lower order to finish with 5-26 as Alliance were felled for 131.

Luke Mitchell destroyed eight-man Stockton & Hopgrove as second division Hirst Courtney eased into the last four.

Phil Alford (59) and Jake Wild (39no) were the main men to see Hirst total 165-8. Mitchell then took centre stage with an analysis of 6.4-2-19-6.

Division three side Thorpe Willoughby overturn higher level opposition Malton & Old Malton to gain a Scothern Construction Cup semi-final berth.

They got there largely due to a best-ever bowling return of 6-15 from Lewis Smith, coupled with three stunning catches at point from Alan Pearce.

Thorpe’s 2nd XI could not join their firsts in the last four after suffering defeat at the hands of Stamford Bridge whose bowler Martin Veysey swung the ball prodigiously to return 2-4 off six overs as Thorpe crumbled to 57 all out.

Mike Newhouse enjoyed a great debut by bowling Yapham to victory at the expense of Stillingfleet.

Yapham struggled to 69-9 from 23 overs with Fleet in complete control. Joe Franklin then smashed 43 runs in a last-wicket partnership of 51 with Jamie Creaser.

Chris Woodfine finished with 4-33 as Yapham were bowled out for 119. However, Newhouse (5-8) ripped through Fleet's ten men, who were rolled over for just 49.

Geoff Room’s 58 was the mainstay in Thixendale’s 165 against Bishopthorpe II who lost by 65 runs.

Askham Bryan opener Parag Mohite blitzed 53 off just nine balls against Ovington II to get the competition's new T20 format off to an explosive start. With Mark Grewer (49no) continuing to accumulate runs, Askham set a formidable 156 from their 20 overs. Ovington’s innings fizzled out to 111-9.

Hemingbrough paid the price for spilling three catches before the first Ben Johnson wicket fell at 147.

The man out was Neil Drew with a rapid 72, while fellow opener Paul Anderson remained unbeaten on 55 as the printers stacked up an unbeatable 152-2.

Ovington III ran out winners against Pocklington in the Prendergast Memorial Cup T20 by four wickets with four balls to spare.

Acomb had too much in the bank for Tadcaster Magnet, winning by seven wickets. Tad made 103-6 but didn't prove enough as second-wicket pair Mark Williamson and Harry Littlewood scored 30 each to set up an Acomb victory.
