THE IMAX cinema at Bradford's National Media Museum (pictured) is offering subtitled shows to cater for those who are deaf or hard of hearing for the first time.
The breakthrough is a result of a partnership between Picturehouse Bradford and the British Deaf Association (BDA), whose local teams have reviewed and improved the cinema’s accessibility over the last few months.
The first film to be screened in IMAX with subtitles will be Disney’s The Jungle Book 3D, at 3.45pm tomorrow.
More screenings will follow over the next fortnight, with a subtitled film also being shown every Sunday evening in the Cubby Broccoli or Pictureville Cinema.
An assisted listening service is now offered for all IMAX films, while audio description headsets are available with selected titles.
Jemma Buckley, BDA film heritage manager, said: "The screening of Power In Our Hands at Picturehouse Bradford was a great success, and we’re delighted that they are now working hard to provide a broader and more diverse programme for local deaf audiences.
