AMATEUR film-makers in Bradford could have their work shown on big screens across the country, thanks to a competition organised by Picturehouse.

The Picturehouse Members' Film Competition is offering the chance for members to make their own short film, to be showcased on trailer reels before every feature film at Picturehouse cinemas across the UK.

The judging panel includes Asif Kapadia, director of acclaimed documentaries Senna and Amy; Barbara Broccoli, producer of Bond films Skyfall and Spectre, and newly appointed Bafta vice president for film; Ben Roberts, director of BFI Film Fund; Tim Bevan, producer of films The Theory of Everything and Les Miserables; Tessa Ross, executive producer of Slumdog Millionaire and 12 Years a Slave; Gurinder Chadha, director of Bride and Prejudice and Bend It Like Beckham; and TV and radio presenter Edith Bowman.

To enter the competition you must submit a short treatment or script of 300 - 500 words, using the theme of 'belonging' as inspiration. The final film must be no more than two minutes long and the closing date for submissions is April 29. Creation of the winning film will be fully funded by Picturehouse Cinemas, guided through production by creative agency McCann, and the film will play for several months in all 23 Picturehouse Cinemas.

Entrants will need a valid Picturehouse membership. More information about this is available at Picturehouse at the National Media Museum in Bradford or on picturehouses.com

Formed in 1989 to challenge the multiplex model, Picturehouse Cinemas own and operate 23 cinemas and programme a further 42 venues across the UK.

Picturehouse Cinemas took over the two cinemas and Imax screen at the National Media Museum in 2014 in a bid to boost audience figures and revenue.

Under the partnership Picturehouse at National Media Museum, Picturehouse took over operating the 300-seat Pictureville, the 100-seat Cubby Broccoli Cinema and Europe’s first IMAX screen.

Museum director Jo Quinton-Tulloch said the partnership with Picturehouse Cinemas would ensure the "long-term sustainability of cinema on this site".

She added: "The marketing reach and expertise of Picturehouse will help deliver an increase in audiences and revenue for the Museum. And investment in technology and facilities will deliver an even wider programme of film and a better experience for our visitors.”
