A NEW heritage blue plaque has been placed in Addingham marking the former home of the man who founded the village's saw mill in the mid-19th century.

Addingham Civic Society has unveiled the tribute at Low House in Saw Mill Lane, the former home of William Brear.

As well as founding Addingham Saw Mill, which was a very successful family-run business for 150 years, William was also a councillor and an active supporter of Mount Hermon Chapel.

One of William's great granddaughters, Margaret Brear, said: "The family wanted the plaque to recognise William's significant contribution to the village."

Addingham Civic Society chairman, Jim Robinson, added: "William's plaque is very deserved and this brings our total in the village to four. A big thank you must go to the parish council for its support."
