JAMIL Parapia ran a lifetime best of 30min 55sec at the TRAFFORD 10K.

The Bingley Grammar School teacher has been trying to better his Dewsbury best of 31:26 since 2007, but such was the quality of the Manchester event that he was 56th, with track star Tom Lancashire winning in 28min 56sec and 28 of the 809 runners beating 30 minutes.

Parapia has been benefitting recently from training in Kenya and with Leeds City.

Bradford-Airedale youngster Lydia Farley scored for Yorkshire in the national INTER-COUNTY CROSS-COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS.

She was third under-20 home for the white-rose county and 65th overall in 24min 59sec.

Yorkshire were 11th, with Scotland West, the North East and Greater Manchester claiming the top three spots.

The other three counters were Lucy Robinson (Wakefield) 27th, Anina Atkinson (Sheffield & Dearne) in 55th and Lucy Farquhar (Holmfirth) in 66th.

Saltaire's Graham Corbett won the PARKRUN in Lister Park on Saturday in 17min 59sec, with 360 taking part.

A series of fell races took place over the weekend, with 1,098 took part in the CONISTON 14 on Saturday, with Ilkley's David Ibbotson enjoying the challenge and incredible scenery in clocking 2hr 2min 49sec.

The 15-mile HEPTONSTALL FELL RACE ascends 3,200ft across the moors and involves seven checkpoints.

Calder Valley local Karl Grey won in 1hr 49min 5sec after a tight battle with clubmate Tim Ellis.

Bingley international Victoria Wilkinson smashed the women's record by 15 minutes in 2:03:59.

Dorking's Hannah Jarvis was also inside the old record in second, ten minutes adrift. Jo Buckley was third lady in 2:19:04.

Ilkley's Jack Wood was a fine fourth overall, two places ahead of Pudsey & Bramley's Joe Baxter.
