A HORSE was rescued by firefighters after getting its back legs stuck in a fence on a Bradford estate.

Fire crews were called by the RSPCA to a field near Kenton Way, Holme Wood, at about 4.40am today, where the animal had trapped its hooves.

A spokesman for Cleckheaton fire station said: "We think the horse has been asleep at the side of the fence and, as it woke up, its two rear hooves have gone through the fence and got wedged.

"It was laid on its side."

The animal suffered a cut to one of its legs during the incident, which firefighters helped to bandage up.

Fire crews used specialist equipment to spread the railings apart and free the horse. The animal was sedated at the time.

The spokesman added: "It was walking around quite happily afterwards."
