People in the Bradford district have helped raise £20,000 for the NSPCC by recycling old mobile phones. Link Telecom aimed to raise £15,000 by 2009 for the children's charity, but the overwhelming success of the initiative meant it actually netted £20,000 in its first year. It pledged to donate £2 for every disused mobile brought in by consumer and business customers, plus £1 for every new network connection made. Since January last year, more than 1,700 old mobiles have been donated, which Link Telecom engineers have either refurbished or sent away for environmentally-sound disposal and parts recycling.
