SPECTACULAR video footage of a "mindless and reckless" man standing out of a sunroof and releasing fireworks has prompted "shock and concern".

A resident, who did not want to be named, gave the Telegraph & Argus a video showing the dangerous stunt in Harewood Street, Bradford Moor.

Ian Bitcon, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service's Area Manager for Fire Safety, said: “We are very shocked and concerned to see what is clearly reckless use of fireworks.

“Fireworks are ultimately explosives and can be very dangerous in the wrong hands. They should only ever be used in a controlled environment with the proper measures in place to ensure people’s safety.

“To shoot a firework from a vehicle is a mindless act which could have resulted in serious injury, if not a fatality.”

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "It should be obvious to all that this type of behaviour is very dangerous. Not only for the man holding the firework and those travelling in the same vehicle, but also to other road users."

"We would like to thank the Telegraph & Argus for making us aware of this incident and will be making further enquiries to try and establish the full circumstances of it."

Concerns have also been raised about 4x4 vehicles churning up grass verges in Bradford Moor. To read more about that issue and to see video of the damage, click here
