STAFF at a care home have won a top award for turning round a failing home by prioritising the personal needs of their residents.
Regency Court Care home in Thwaites village, near Keighley, was picked as a winner at the Great British Care Awards for Yorkshire and Humber, coming first in the Putting People First category.
Judges praised staff for creating an example of high quality care and said: "They have turned round a failing home to become a beacon for how care homes for dementia patients should be run.
"Their proactive approach towards improving the wellbeing of residents has seen some residents coming off unnecessary medication.
They have forged great links with health professionals and the community. They really do put people first."
A spokesman for Regency Court said: "We have embraced therapeutic care and support for people living with dementia, which has led to us being able to offer our residents person centred care in the least restrictive way possible.
"We are planning to branch out to offer our award winning services into the community in the very near future, to enable us to put more people first.
"The management at Regency Court are very proud of the achievements of their amazing care team."
