PETER Stephens of Bingley finished an excellent eighth in the Wadsworth Half Trog Fell Race on Sunday.

He clocked 1hr 26min 12sec for the 9.3-mile course, which included 1400ft of climbing, while Baildon's Malcolm McMillan was a good 16th of the 83 hardy competitors.

There was a good turn-out of Bradford Airedale members in the COP HILL FELL RACE at Meltham, Dave Teggart finishing ninth (43min 22sec) in the two-lap seven-miler.

Stephen Wolstenholme was 43rd, with Imran Asghar 45th and Edward Jones 75th.

The race was won by Rob James (Royton) in 39:58 and Holmfirth's Helen Berry (43:24).

Baildon's Jim Wheldon ran well as third over-60, 48th of the 115 finishers.

Jacqueline Cooper was second over-45 lady and took the lead in the AIREDALE ATHLETICS OFF-ROAD CHALLENGE, albeit after only a quarter of the series.

Pudsey Pacers, together with Stainland Lions and Horsforth, dominated the end-of-season team rankings in the YORKSHIRE VETERANS' LEAGUE after Sunday's final race at Spenborough.

In the 'all runners to count' category, Pacers were third in the women's league and second in the men's. In the 'top four to count' ranking, they were second in the women and third in the men.

Saltaire Striders were a good sixth among the ladies, with a big gap to Eccleshill in seventh. Baildon were ninth and then Bingley, Ilkley and Queensbury were bunched at 12th of the 28 clubs.

The men's rankings were tighter. Saltaire were again sixth but Queensbury did excellently to chase them in seventh.

Bingley were tenth, Eccleshill 13th and Baildon 19th of 38 teams from as far afield as Hull, Whitby and Meltham.

Stainland's Gavin Mulholland won the individual men's honours with victory in six of the eight races.

Ali Nash (Saltaire) was fourth over-40; Paul Gaile (Pudsey Pacers) best M45; Stuart Dunbar (Saltaire) third M50; Pete Hughes (Queensbury) fourth M60; Peter Ellerton (Bingley) third M65.

Tamsin Treasure-Jones and Louise Nash were second and third in the women's over-45 table, while clubmate Helen Love was third F55.

Sue Morley of Ilkley was fourth F60, with Idle's Anastasia Lincoln fifth.
