Wharfedale Triangle League Division One: Saltaire Rangers 1, Cullingworth Youth 4

Undefeated Youth were visitors to Saltaire Rangers, who were also unbeaten, and found their opponents to be a physical but fair team and proved they are able to deal with all types of play.

The first 45 minutes saw end to end action, though Youth had more of the possession and created the better goal-scoring chances.

It was ironic that the only goal of this half was an own goal in the 20th minute. Cullingworth put in a great cross from the right wing which saw a home defender dispatch the ball into his own net.

The second period saw Youth with the better of the exchanges and, in the 55th minute, 18-year-old Sam Fox put Youth two goals up.

They extended their lead with a further goal through midfield dynamo Andy Waper but then sat back and allowed Salts to have a ten-minute period when they dominated play and pulled a goal back.

Youth’s keeper made a couple of great saves before the visitors resumed control. They were rewarded with a fourth goal scored by Joel Hardy.

This was Youth’s best performance of the season and they are now joint top of the division with Saltaire Rangers but have a game in hand. They are at home to Milford on Sunday.
