AN AMATEUR football team from Bradford has won praise after setting up its own TV channel.

Campion AFC's own CampionTV features interviews with players and managers, match highlights and post-game interviews.

Producer Mark Palfreeman, who also manages the West Riding County Amateur Football League's club development squad, said he hoped to be able to stream a game live onto the online platform at some point in the future.

"I work in marketing and e-commerce," said Mr Palfreeman. "I wanted sponsors to get something back for their investment in the club."

Interviews are set up like ones seen on TV featuring professional footballers, with sponsorship boards placed behind the person being interviewed.

"It has been up and running since pre-season and we are still experimenting," said Mr Palfreeman. "We are looking at streaming a game live at some point.

"I use a GoPro camera to record the games and then look through that for the highlights. I interview managers and players from both sides after the game. Someone from Tyersal came on after losing 11-1.

"As the season progresses we are looking at doing stuff like 'Teammates' from Soccer AM. We want to do features and stuff like that.

"I have never seen it at an amateur level. It was a tongue-in-cheek nod to things like Chelsea TV and MUTV."

He added: "Teams are coming up to Campion now and are talking about it when they get here. The local FA have contacted me saying how impressed they are and would like to use CampionTV as an example of how local football clubs can market themselves and engage the wider community.

"It is about getting exposure for the club. We are hoping to get bigger and get more sponsors in."

A spokesman for the West Riding FA said: "Campion are a forward thinking, and progressive football club. In the current climate, where sponsors can be hard to come by, it's exciting to see a grassroots club devise innovative ways of promoting themselves.

"The latest development with Campion TV is a positive move, and we are encouraging other clubs to follow Campion's lead."

Philip Rhodes, of the West Riding County Amateur Football League, said: "It is unique to this league, although not unique to our level of football.

"There is a market for it. The league had a meeting on Tuesday night and we were talking about it.

"The initiatives they have got going up there now are really good. A few more adjustments and they could step up to the Northern Counties East League no problem. They could be the next club to make the step up."

Mr Palfreeman, 31, took over as manager of the development squad prior to this season. He joined Campion, who are based in Manningham, as a player four years ago.

He said Campion were currently in talks with former Leeds United and Scotland footballer Dominic Matteo about him coming on board as club chairman.
