A 22-YEAR-OLD man has been spared an immediate jail sentence for picking up a young woman by the throat and pushing her backwards at her Bradford home.
Khurram Mirza, of Ribbleton Grove, Pollard Park, Bradford, pleaded guilty to stealing his victim's phone and causing her actual bodily harm in separate incidents.
Prosecutor Ken Green told Bradford Crown Court today that Mirza confronted the woman, who had once been in a relationship with him, when she opened her front door. She fell backwards and he picked her up by the throat, and pushed her into the kitchen.
He was calling her nasty names and her young daughter was present at the time, the court was told.
The woman suffered bruising to her neck.
Ian Howard said in mitigation that Mirza had been held in custody since the attack.
He was academically bright and had completed his unpaid work on a suspended jail sentence for dangerous driving.
Mirza was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment suspended for 12 months.
