A FAMILY had a lucky escape when a smoke detector sounded after their toaster burst into flames.
Bread had been left in the unattended toaster at a house in Devonshire Street, Keighley, at around 8.30pm on Tuesday.
A family member unplugged the burning toaster and threw it outside. A fire crew from Keighley used a ventilation fan to clear the kitchen of smoke.
A fire service spokesman said the incident demonstrated the importance of fitted and working smoke detectors.
No damage was caused to the kitchen and no-one was injured. A fire crew from Bingley also attended.
