A MAN who attacked one victim with a metal dog chain and spat in the face of another in a Bradford shop has been given a suspended jail term.
Ishak Ali, 30, had pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm, assault, and criminal damage prior to the hearing at Bradford Crown Court today.
The court heard that on February 21, Ali, of Gracechurch Street, Manningham, Bradford, had been walking along Westgate in the city centre when he grabbed Asjid Mahmood and hit him five times in the head with the chain, also punching him several times and biting him below the eye.
On November 25 last year, Ali was said to have entered the BSX store in the Oastler Centre and assaulted Zubair Warraich, pinning him up against the wall and spitting in his face, before smashing his £180 mobile phone.
Sentencing Ali, who was said to suffer from a personality disorder, Judge Colin Burn said: "Mercifully, neither victim suffered serious injuries, but Mr Mahmood must have been terrified at how the situation was going to end."
Ali was sentenced to ten months in prison, suspended for two years, and given a two-year supervision order with the probation service, including a 40-day activity requirement.
He was also ordered to pay £340 costs.
