A student is travelling to Tanzania to work as a volunteer at a baby home.
Jayne Meakin, 17, of Bracken Bank, Keighley, is set to be a volunteer for 12 months at UK charity Forever Angels' baby home and needs to raise around £4,000 to fund her stay. The baby home, in the eastern African community of Mwanza, provides a stable home for up to 20 orphaned and abandoned babies and infants who are severely disadvantaged.
Jayne - a sixth-form student at Oakbank School, in Keighley - will work alongside other volunteers at the home to help look after the children.
She said: "This is the first time I have done anything like this. It is something I have always wanted to do and I think I will really enjoy it.
"I feel sorry for the children out there. I want to be able to make a difference and look after sick children and make them feel better."
She added: "It will be a good experience and I will find out more about a different culture. It will make me look at things differently and I think I will come back a more humble person."
Jayne, who will go out to Tanzania next September, can be contacted for sponsorship on (01535) 670579.
