BRADFORD Council's mobile phone app has been nominated for a national award for "best citizen services".

The app, was created last year for Apple and Android smartphones and tablets, and has now landed a place on the Digital Leaders 100 list, which celebrate the highest digital achievements from the UK's public, private and non-profit sectors.

The final running order of the Digital Leaders list is decided by a public vote, and these votes are combined with the views of a judging panel of digital experts.

Winners will be announced at a London ceremony on June 25.

The app allows people to access council information such as where they can recycle, information on local sports facilities and making payments to the council.

It has been downloaded by more than 15,000 people in the last 12 months, and the most popular feature has been the bin day reminders, which enable people to receive an alert the evening before their bins are due to be emptied.

Other alerts which can be sent out via the app include emergency school closures and new Council job vacancies.

Council leader, Councillor David Green (pictured), said: "Receiving national recognition just a year after the app was launched is a fantastic achievement. The app has been an important step in improving our digital services and giving more people access to Council services online."
