Ventus Sports produced the surprise of the day in beating West Bowling in the quarter-finals of the Bradford and District Sunday Senior Cup.

Steve Bromley gave the Bradford Sunday Alliance Division One team a first-half lead over their fifth-placed Premier Division visitors.

Ten minutes after the restart, Darryl Leach produced an equaliser and it was only brilliant goalkeeping from Carl Rabowski that prevented West Bowling from taking the lead.

But Ian Horrocks restored the hosts' lead on the hour mark and sub Ray Gartland scored a brace to give Ventus a 4-1 success.

Division One leaders Buttershaw White Star also beat Premier opposition, overcoming Whetley Lane in the third round 7-3 after extra-time.

Mathew Morgan put the home team in front after 15 minutes but a goal from Mark Betts and a brace from Chris Graham put the Division One team 3-1 up at half-time.

A strike from Carl Trennery and a second from Morgan pulled the home team level ten minutes from the end. But Morgan missed the chance to complete his hat-trick and give the home team victory from the penalty spot.

The visitors piled on the pressure in extra-time, scoring four goals as Betts and Graham completed their hat-tricks and an own goal completed the scoring.

The all-Premier clash between holders Bolton Woods and County Cup finalists Oakenshaw resulted in a 4-1 victory for hosts Woods. David Rouse, Chris Cookson, Andy Howland and Tarik Hussain netted to set up a tie with Albion Sports in the next round.

Another top-flight clash between Queensbury and Bradford Park Avenue Rangers saw Rangers playing their best football of the season to run out comfortable 7-2 winners as Trinity Brown hit a hat-trick to book the visitors a semi-final spot.

Meanwhile in the league, Eastward and Eccleshill United failed to take advantage of Division One leaders Buttershaw's cup commitments, drawing with Ring o Bells and Wyke Wanderers respectively.

Clayton Orient had a 2-0 victory at Victoria Rangers to stay at the top of Division 1A but White Horse kept in touch with an 8-4 triumph against visitors Oddfellows Athletic. Richard Burke and Lee Taylor both grabbed hat-tricks.

At Arkwright Street, Division 1B leaders Tyersal made it 12 matches unbeaten since the start of the season but did not have things all their own way against White Eagles.

A hotly-disputed goal from Anthony Busfield, who beat the offside trap, gave the hosts the half-time lead. Graham Sides made it 2-0 with a brilliant 20-yard volley but the visitors replied five minutes later.

Andy Bailey then forced home a shot with 15 minutes to go but the visitors struck ten minutes from the end and then had a goal disallowed in the last minute.

Warren Ingleton put George Hotel in front against visitors Bishop Rovers but a brace from Ebad Rashide, both supplied by Zaid Youniss, saw the visitors claim the three points and move just two points behind their opponents with two games in hand.
