A MAN who crashed while leading police on a “lunatic” high speed chase across Bradford in a white Audi A7 has been locked up for eight months.

Idnan Khan’s high-powered vehicle ended up wedged between a fence and a tree in Rhodesway after a nine mile pursuit at up to 94mph, from the M606, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Khan, of Kensington Street, Girlington, Bradford, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and having no licence or insurance, on December 30.

The court heard that Greater Manchester Police clocked him doing 120mph on the M62 at 1.30am and told officers in West Yorkshire.

Khan, 20, was chased from the motorway on to Mayo Avenue, where he was doing 94mph in a 30 zone.

He sped along Little Horton Lane, Godwin Street, Sunbridge Road and Thornton Road and on to Whetley Lane in icy conditions. Part-way through the pursuit he turned off the car lights, the court heard.

Khan struck the kerb and ended up trapped in the crashed car.

His barrister, Gerald Hendron, said he was young and immature. He had no previous convictions and worked as a warehouseman in a tyre depot.

Judge Robert Bartfield sentenced Khan to eight months in a young offender institution and banned him from driving for two years.
