A businesswoman is set to relocate her company because of proposed traffic-calming measures.

Peta Jenkins, who runs Flowers By Design, said a rising bollard, operated by a keypad, would deter people from coming down Otley Street, Skipton.

She said: "We get passing trade and people don't know we exist unless they're walking or driving past."

Mrs Jenkins said she had also been forced to find somewhere else to trade in light of a 31 per cent increase in her rent.

She said: "The two things together were the final straw."

She believed the bollard was to deter boy racers from using the street but could not see what it would achieve.

Mrs Jenkins will consider her move after Valentine's Day and Mother's Day.

North Yorkshire County Council highways officer Ken Martin said the measures for Otley Street were due to be considered at a Craven Area Committee meeting on Thursday, March 8.

He said the bollard would not stop cars wanting to use the shops but would slow them down as they would have to stop and enter a code.
