DETECTIVES are urging people to search their consciences and help to snare a gun-toting gang who terrorised a Bradford family.

Officers hope that the 11-year jail sentence handed out last week to one of the gang members will encourage those with information to identify the armed robbers who are still on the run.

Bradford Crown Court heard how three generations of a family - a pregnant woman, her student daughter and a frail grandfather - were attacked by four masked men, armed with a pistol and a kitchen knife, who burst into their large detached home in the Manchester Road area of Bradford.

The gang demanded to know where the safe was. The woman had a hand placed over her mouth to stifle her screams and was flung on to a sofa, making her fear she would have a miscarriage.

Her daughter, in her late teens, was throttled by one of the gang and marched upstairs with a gun at her back.

Her father-in-law was elderly, frail and frightened.

Gang member Jamal Benjamin, 25, of Laverhills, Hightown, Liversedge, was jailed for 11 years and three months for his part in the robbery.

He was arrested after being cornered in a block of flats by an armed response team after his getaway car was tracked by the police helicopter to Huddersfield.

But he is the only member of the gang to have been caught so far.

Detective Constable Jane Hebdon, of Bradford District CID, said: "We are pleased with the lengthy sentence Benjamin has received for his part in this incident, which was a terrifying ordeal for those involved.

"However, it is vitally important that his accomplices are also brought to justice, and we hope that this conviction may encourage others to come forward with information about what happened that day in Bradford and who was responsible.

"The suspects may have confided in others about their actions on that day, and it is equally possible that allegiances could have changed in the 16 months which have passed.

"Our inquiries into this incident lead us to believe that these men were from the Huddersfield area.

"A family was left traumatised by the events of that day, and I would urge anyone with information to contact Bradford District CID on 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111, as what they know could prove to be vital to this investigation."

The robbery took place at about 3pm on September 23, 2013. The gang were all dressed in black and wearing balaclava masks and thick gloves.
