A SKIPTON man who stole two irons and a bottle of Katy P perfume from B&M Bargains has been ordered to pay £284 in fines and compensation.

Robert Hodgson, 39, was picked up on the store’s CCTV cameras taking the items on December 1 without paying and was identified by police, Skipton magistrates heard.

Hodgson initially denied taking the items, but on Friday, admitted theft. He also admitted being in breach of a conditional discharge for theft, imposed by the Skipton court in October.

In mitigation, John Mewies said Hodgson, who moved to Skipton from Settle over a family dispute, now planned to remove himself from bad influences. Hodgson, of Aireview House, Broughton Road, was fined £125, must pay compensation of £54.97 to B&M Bargains, £85 costs and £20 victims surcharge.
