THREE CCTV cameras are being put up in Keighley following a series of attacks and complaints over drug dealing.

The safety measures, funded by Keighley Town Council and Bradford Council, will be on Malsis Road to cover Lund Park, Cartmel Road, Highfield, to cover Victoria Mews and Parson Street, Lawkholme.

The town council’s Watch and Transport Committee chairman Councillor Michael Westerman (pictured) said the CCTV for Parson Street was already in place and the security camera for Lund Park should be installed before Christmas.

Last month army veteran George Gill lost his service medals in a mugging at the park and, in a separate case, a family was assaulted by stone-throwing thugs.

Cllr Westerman said: “The two camera columns cost £1,040 each and the camera for Lund Park is about £6,500. That camera is state-of-the-art because it has infrared night vision, similar to the type of camera found in police helicopters.

“We acted swiftly to support having this camera funded, but it wasn’t a knee jerk reaction. It’s something we’d previously been hoping for, but following the attacks we had it brought forward.”
