A MENSTON school's rugby ambassador was invited to attend a prestigious Rugby Football Union’s Women and Girls Strategy launch at the House of Commons.

Megan Casey, Year 13 student at St Mary’s, attended the launch of 'This is England Women’.

The initiative aims to get 100,000 more women and girls involved in the game.

She said: “I don't think I have ever felt more empowered to be a women until that day. Surrounded by people who were just in awe of each other for what they have achieved, or wanting to achieve. I believe that is what the initiative is aiming to achieve, to be able to inspire women and girls to take part not only in sport, but rugby in particular and to get rid of the stigma and stereotype that comes with women’s rugby."

Megan’s selection as a School Rugby Ambassador followed on from St Mary’s being successful in becoming a Rugby World Cup Host City Hub School for Leeds, a wonderful opportunity only open to a small number of schools.
