PLANS to turn an empty Shipley pub into a restaurant and offices have been refused by Bradford Council.
The application for Oddfellows Hall in Otley Road would have seen the ground floor of the building turned into a restaurant for 66 diners, with offices on the first, second and third floors, and would have included a three storey expansion to the building.
Although planning officers said the loss of a pub in that area, where there are several other drinking establishments, would not "represent loss of a valuable community facility," they said the building's new use would bring too much traffic to the busy junction.
Officers said: "there is the potential for a significant level of activity at the premises, for which the site does not have adequate off-street parking facilities. The site can provide only a maximum of 14 parking spaces within the curtilage. According to the Council's parking guidelines approximately 50 spaces would be required."
