Lifelong socialist John Prestage will meet the Prime Minister next week when he attends a reception at 10 Downing Street.
The Bradford councillor, who lives in Sandbeds, will travel to London to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the Co-operative Party.
Coun Prestage, for many years a leading figure in the Co-operative movement, is attending as secretary of the United Co-operatives Party.
He is also vice president of United Co-operatives, which runs shops, funeral directors, travel agents and car showrooms across the North and Midlands.
He has been a national representative of the Co-op, which has long been part of the Labour movement along with the unions.
Mr Prestage will be the only Co-op representative from Yorkshire at the reception, along with chief executives from societies across the country.
Lats summer Mr Prestage celebrated 40 years in public life with colleagues from more than 30 organisations where he has been a member.
