A Bradford primary school has been forced to close after an outbreak of a winter vomiting bug.

Home Farm Primary, off Cooper Lane, was forced to shut on Friday and again today after more than 150 pupils were hit by the highly-contagious virus.

Staff also reported suffering from symptoms, which include vomiting, diarrhoea and a high temperature.

A Bradford Council spokesman said a team of cleaners had disinfected all surfaces at the school on Saturday and again today in a bid to prevent the bug from spreading.

The spokesman added: "Some 150 pupils were reported to be suffering from the bug late last week - forcing the school to close on Friday and Monday. Staff were also affected.

"We expect the school to re-open Tuesday after a deep clean'.

"We would advise all parents of children who show symptoms of the bug to keep their child off school for 48 hours to help to prevent it from spreading."

Parents are also advised to keep children away from events in community centres, churches or mosques.

Schools are advised to put restrictions in place by environmental health officers if they notice an abnormal number of pupils with the symptoms.

Last year a total of 71 schools in the Bradford district put restrictions in place because of a winter vomiting outbreak.
