Two men who got themselves caught up in a drug dealing operation have been spared jail by a judge.

Nadeem Hussain, 26, and Joseph Stott, 18, were caught by police who had been observing them in September 2005.

When they saw Stott leave Hussain's house in Merton Road, Little Horton, Bradford, they stopped and searched him and recovered four wraps of heroin and four of crack cocaine along with £108.

They then raided Hussain's home where they found £620 along with two mobile phones that had been used to organise the deals.

Both men were arrested and Stott, of Clough Street, East Bowling, Bradford who was only 16 at the time of the offences, admitted that he had been acting as a runner for the last two weeks.

His barrister, David Kelly, told Bradford Crown Court that he needed the money to support his pregnant girlfriend.

Hussain, who pleaded guilty to the same offences of possession with intent to supply as his co-accused, had only been manning the phones for two hours, his counsel Yunus Valli said.

Judge Jonathan Durham Hall QC was told that both men were remorseful and had not committed any further offences.

He sentenced both defendants to 12 months in custody which he suspended for two years. Ordering them to do 200 hours unpaid for the community Judge Durham Hall added: "It seems to me that due to your lack of criminal record, the time that has past and the basis of plea that I'm driven to take an exceptional course."
