Residents have the chance to play a key role in an ambitious plan to increase greenery across the Bradford district.

Volunteers from the Forest of Bradford environmental group will host a tree planting session at Town End Farm, Laycock, between 10am and 3pm on March 3.

So far more than 150,000 trees have been planted at more than 200 sites across the district, but another 800,000 trees are needed before Bradford reaches the national average for woodland cover.

The group, part of Bradford Environmental Action Trust, is organising several plantings during the winter.

The project was set up in 1998 to encourage communities, organisations and businesses to create woodland in both rural and urban areas.

As well as running practical days with schools, youth groups and unemployed people, the group offers advice on managing existing woodland.

A Forest of Bradford spokesman said the Laycock planting site is a long way from Town End Farm, and there would be signposts from the junction of Tarn Lane and Back Lane.
