THE names of 139 young men from Low Moor were read out at a moving World War One commemoration service in Bradford yesterday.

A candle was lit for each name as they were read out at Holy Trinity Church, on Parkhouse Road, Low Moor.

Reverend Dorothy Ellis said: "139 young men from Low Moor lost their lives in the conflict. Some died in action, others died of their wounds, and yet others were reported missing and never traced. Seven men died in the Low Moor Explosion of August 1916 when the munitions works blew up.

"The names of all these were recorded on the War Memorial of our parish - many on the Cenotaph at the Guide Post in Low Moor, others on memorials in our places of worship and outside the Harold Club in Huddersfield."

At the service, residents remembered those who died and their families, said prayers, and listened to the sounding of the Last Post.
