Owners of unused mobile phones are being asked to do their bit for the environment by recycling them.

Barclays bank, in Market Street, Bradford, in partnership with The Woodland Trust, is today launching the Re-Leaf Appeal which aims to turn old and unwanted mobile phones into trees.

Throwing away mobile phones adds to the burden of landfill and can allow toxins from batteries and plastics to leak into the ground.

Instead, people are being urged to post them to the Woodland Trust, which will receive £2.50 for each phone, which they will use to plant and care for UK woodland.

Pick up a Freepost envelope at the bank or phone (0208) 274 4040 to order one.
