A cashier is in hospital with serious injuries after he was repeatedly stabbed in a robbery last night.
Police say the 50-year-old man was locking up at Coral bookmakers in Market Street, Thornton, Bradford, at 6pm when the robber forced his way in.
The cashier, who was alone at the bookmakers, was made to get behind the cash desk.
Inspector Adrian Lyles said that during the robbery the man was stabbed several times and seriously injured.
The attacker demanded money and fled with a quantity of cash.
The victim was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
A man was arrested in the early hours of today and was being held in custody by Bradford North police for questioning.
Police are appealing to anyone who was in Market Street and Fountain Street in the hour before the robbery, and anyone who visited the bookies during that time, to contact them on (01274) 376259.
