A Bradford rioter was today warned he is facing jail for his part in the 2001 disturbances.

Kabir Hussain, 26, handed himself in to police five and a half years after the riots and today admitted his part in the violent clashes when he appeared at Bradford Crown Court.

Hussain, of Lower Westfield Road, Heaton, pleaded guilty to riot and will be sentenced next month.

He was granted conditional bail but Judge Roger Scott told him he was not making any promises about what would happen to him and suggested it was almost inevitable he would be sentenced to custody.

Hussain was the second to last riot suspect to be apprehended when he voluntarily attended Lawcroft House police station in Bradford on January 5 and after questioning by police he was charged with rioting on July 7, 2001.

A few days later he appeared before Bradford magistrates. The case was transferred to the crown court and he was granted unconditional bail.

But Judge Scott imposed a condition that he lives and sleeps at his home address until he is sentenced.

A pre-sentence report is being prepared for the hearing on February 9 before the Recorder of Bradford, Judge Stephen Gullick.

Judge Scott was told Hussain had thrown three missiles during a ten-minute period at about 9.10pm on the night of the riot.

The accused had one previous conviction relating to the possession of cannabis with intent to supply, the court heard.

The remaining suspect is Mohammed Ayub Sheikh, a 32-year-old chef, of Great Horton, Bradford.
