It will be strangely quiet in St Francis RC First School next week when pupils will be giving their teachers a welcome bit of hush as they take part in a sponsored event to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Big Hush is an annual sponsored silence and last year schools in Bradford raised more than £4,000 to help people affected by cancer.

The event on Thursday at the school in Myers Lane, Bradford, comes in the middle of Macmillan's Cancertalk Week, which aims to get young people aged seven and 16 talking about cancer in schools.

Children will be taking part in activities to find out more about the disease, which helps reduce the fear surrounding cancer.

Money raised by The Big Hush will help people affected by cancer by helping the charity provide practical, medical, financial and emotional support.

A Youthline has recently been launched offering cancer information and support to 12 to 21-year-olds who are affected by cancer, whether the caller is a patient, family member or friend.

Contact Youthline on 0808 808 0800, Monday to Friday, from 9am to 10pm, or e-mail youthline@macmillan.org.uk.
