A woodland currently used by dog walkers and as a hang-out for teenagers could be turned into a beauty spot with a £10,000 Big Lottery grant.
Skipton Town Council has applied for Breathing Places funding to make Wilderness Wood into a wildlife haven.
The one-hectare site, off Otley Road, Skipton, was gifted to the council by Skipton Civic Society several years ago.
Using the money, the council wants to improve access by upgrading gates, steps, bridges and paths and bar entry for motorised vehicles such as trail bikes.
It intends to turn Wilderness Wood into a small nature resort.
Skipton Town Council has priced the project at £13,676 and hopes the majority of this will be covered by Lottery money.
