A group of ghost-seeking volunteers are spending a night in haunted cells in aid of a Bradford-based charity.

Gathering in the Victorian cells under Leeds Town Hall, on The Headrow, six British Red Cross volunteers are hoping to raise £25,000 in sponsorship.

Armed with digital cameras and supplies of food and drink, the sit-in takes place between 7pm on Friday, February 23, until 7am on Saturday, February 24.

Norman Brickley, one of the British Cross volunteers taking part, said: "We'll be taking digital cameras to identify circular energy build-ups known as orbs. They are invisible to the naked eye, but the flash identifies the moving balls of ghosts.

"It's really eerie down in the cells as it's no longer in use and it has bull rings still on the wall that prisoners used to be chained to."

Money raised from the event would give the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service, based on Leeds Road, Idle, Bradford, enough money to replace their well travelled caravanette.

"Our caravanette is looking dated inside so we want to replace it with something more modern with better wheelchair facilities," said Mr Brickley.
