Simon Parker column
IT WAS as if Sunday had never happened.
Popping back through Haworth on a dog walk four days on, there was no evidence that anything out of the ordinary had just taken place.
The only clue was a discarded piece of paper on the nearby hill bearing the logo of the Tour de France.
There were no road markings, no safety barriers, no blaring car horns, no people – not even a single bike.
But those who crammed the route last weekend, not just in Main Street but all over the district, will never forget the day the Tour came to town.
It was the smiles that stuck in the mind; ear-to-ear on the faces of the crowds, young and old, the helpers, the advertising caravan, even the motorbike coppers high-fiving the children on the kerb.
We waited five hours for a blur of lycra that came and went in a couple of minutes. Was it worth it? Abso-blooming-lutely!
Now please hurry back so we can do it all over again.
