PUPILS at two Bradford schools have become published authors at the end of a year-long project to get them more involved in reading and writing.
Carlton Bolling College and Feversham College have been involved in the "First Story" project, which sees authors visit the school and hold workshops with pupils, since September.
The charity works with pupils in deprived areas who would not normally be engaged in writing, and after years of success in London and Nottingham, the Bradford school group, which also includes Belle Vue Boys School, were the first in the North to sign up.
Over 60 pupils were involved, and the project has proved such a success that it is likely to be expanded into different schools next year.
Young poet Andrew McMillan has been working with pupils from Carlton Bolling College, while Bradford-born poet Kate Fox has been visiting a group at Feversham College, and over the past few months pupils have been collecting their work for an anthology. On Monday Carlton Bolling College held its book launch at Undercliffe Cemetery while the Feversham launch took place at the girls' school the week before.
Belle Vue has its launch event on July 16.
