Ilkley town leaders are considering a request for money to sponsor a police bicycle for officers to get around.
Police have asked Ilkley Parish Council's general purposes committee for its support in sponsoring a community cycle to be used in particular by the town's Police Community Support Officers.
The parish council met with criticism after some councillors decided to give £250 to police from the parish precept in 2002 to fund a mobile phone.
Some members of the council asked why the police could not pay for a mobile phone themselves when West they already charged a large precept on Ilkley residents.
But committee chairman, Councillor Heathcliffe Bowen, says councillors are taking the new request seriously.
