HAVING fun in the name of charity - ten five a side teams from across Bradford took part in a tournament to raise money for the Telegraph & Argus Bradford Crocus Cancer Appeal.
The event was organised by the Sports Campaign Against Racism and took place at the 5 Alive Soccer Centre in Fairweather Green.
Bradford firm Regal Bakery put up the cash to hire the premises and buy trophies, meaning the entrance fees paid by teams could go straight into the Crocus appeal, leaving it £400 closer to the £1 million target.
Councillor Sinead Engel (Lab, Clayton and Fairweather Green) topped up the total further, with a £20 donation.
The contest was won by BPA Rangers who beat Albion Sports in the final by five goals to one.
The Telegraph & Argus is working with the university, Yorkshire Cancer Research and Sovereign Health Care Charitable Trust to raise £1m for the discovery and development of new cancer medicines at the university's Institute of Cancer Therapeutics.
