Detectives are hunting robbers who fled after failing to steal a cash machine at a motorway service station.

The three masked men entered the Hartshead Moor services on the eastbound M62 near Bradford at 3am on Tuesday, January 16.

They attached a wire rope to the ATM machine, just inside the main entrance, and a Daihatsu 4 X 4 vehicle, which had been stolen from Cullingworth, near Keighley, the previous evening.

They used the vehicle to try to pull the cash machine from its mountings, but the wire rope snapped.

The three men jumped into two cars, a black Audi A8 and a purple and silver Subaru Impreza, and drove off along the M62 towards Bradford.

Nothing was stolen but the ATM machine was damaged.

The Daihatsu, which was green and grey and had registration M370 AUB, was left at the scene and is now being examined by police, who are also hoping to study CCTV footage of the incident.

The only descriptions of the raiders is that they were masked and of proportionate build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Ross Wadsworth, of Calder Valley CID, via the help desk, on (01422) 337059, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
