YORKSHIRE were 27-4 winners over Cheshire in their latest British Parks County Championship match.

In the home match at Spen Victoria, Yorkshire carded a full house of winners, with Pudsey duo Chris Mordue and Jon Edmondson both carding 21-4 victories as Yorkshire won the aggregate by an impressive 125 chalks.

In the away match at Bungalow BC, Stockport, the score was much closer, with Yorkshire taking the aggregate by just 18 chalks, despite carding eight winners.

Craig Hebbard (Pudsey Littlemoor) was the pick of the away winners with a superb 21-3 effort.

Yorkshire took the three bonus points for winning the overall aggregate and will now need a similar result in their final match against North Derbyshire on Sunday, August 17 to have any chance of qualifying for the final, which takes place on Sunday, September 21.

* Mark Hughes won the 2014 Shipley Classic after defeating fellow Crossgates bowler Steven Gilroy 21-15 in the final.

Hughes came through a tough field to take the title. He started against favourite Graeme Wilson (Lower Hopton) but never allowed him into the game, winning 21-14.

In the semi-finals, Hughes was up against another Lower Hopton bowler in Ian Booth and, when he led 18-4, the game seemed won – but Booth had other ideas as he recovered to eventually lose only 21-18.

Gilroy had made it through to the final with wins over 2011 champion Mark Regan (Brighouse Sports) 21-18 and Callum Wraight (Shropshire) 21-16.

Hughes was always in control in the final and, despite a late comeback by Gilroy, it was Hughes who won the game 21-15 to become the fifth Shipley Classic champion.
