Police have released CCTV pictures in a bid to catch thieves who stripped valuable signs from the district's railway stations.

The thieves were caught on camera as they stole enamelled signs from Damems station on the historic Keighley & Worth Valley Railway The thieves struck at Damems station at about 3.20pm on Monday, December 11.

A police spokesman said: "Two men were filmed by CCTV unscrewing signs from the station platform and taking them away.

"In all five signs were taken, valued at about £500, including a sign with "Damems" on it.

"It is thought the men could also be behind a series of thefts of signs from other stations on the historic line."

Signs with "Keighley" on them were also stolen from Keighley Station, Station Bridge, some time between Monday, December 11 and Saturday, December 16.

Overnight on Saturday, November 25, and Sunday, November 26, two signs with "Haworth" on them were taken from the platform at Haworth station.

And on Tuesday, October 24, two enamelled signs - "Gentlemen" and "Private" - were found to have been taken from doors at Ingrow station.

All the signs are valued at about £100 each and are the property of Keighley & Worth Valley Light Railway Company.

Keighley CID would like to hear from anyone who recognises the men or who saw anything suspicious at any of the stations around the times the thefts have occurred, or anyone who has been offered the signs for sale.
