The founder of a Bradford-based debt counselling charity has appeared on the BBC’s Songs of Praise to talk about the progress of the organisation.
John Kirkby, who set up Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in 1996, also attended Prime Minister David Cameron’s Easter address in Downing Street alongside figures from other religious charities across the district. CAP, based in Jubilee Mill, now has 252 debt centres across the UK, more than 800 churches running its money course, 80 job clubs, and new ‘CAP release’ clubs, a pilot ministry for people with addictions. “When you see people being genuinely overwhelmed by what God’s done in you, and through you, it is humbling,” said Mr Kirkby. “I thank God for his faithfulness and every single person who has played any part in this movement.”
