Bradford’s status as the world’s first City of Film will be highlighted in a Songs of Praise programme broadcast from the Cathedral this weekend.
Sir Tom Courtenay, who starred in the films Billy Liar and The Dresser, both shot in the city, will be seen giving readings at Bradford Cathedral for a film-themed service for the BBC1 programme, to be aired on Sunday.
Bradford's City of Film team helped with finding locations for the programme, including streets in Little Germany, Centenary Square and Undercliffe Cemetery.
City of Film director David Wilson said: “Not only do they want to portray the spiritual side of the city, but also its heritage, which in Bradford’s case involves film.”
This will be the second Songs of Praise programme from Bradford Cathedral this year. The first, shown last month, highlighted a project paying tribute to the city’s textile heritage and the role the Cathedral has played in it.
