The Mayor of Kirklees – Coun Martyn Bolt – got on his bike to officially launch a cycling-themed festival around local museums.
A keen cyclist, Coun Bolt’s first stop on his visit to each of the authority’s museums which are hosting events as part of a 100-day festival - was Oakwell Hall Country Park in Nutter Lane, Birstall.
Organised by Welcome to Yorkshire, the festival showcases the region’s finest culture and is aimed at encouraging mass public participation in arts and cultural events in the run-up to the Grand Depart arriving in the region.
During the event, Oakwell Hall is running a cycling-themed quiz within the museum’s walled gardens and at Red House Museum in Oxford Road, Gomersal, visitors will be able to give their thoughts on the county and add their favourite Yorkshire places to an interactive map.
