A racing jacket belonging to a Bradford speedway legend has been presented to the man who won the last race at Odsal.
Greg Hancock was presented with Gary Havelock’s ‘spare’ number three race jacket at Mr Havelock’s farewell meeting in Poole.
Mr Havelock wore number three in 1997 when Bradford Dukes won the Elite League.
Speedway fan John Murphy said: “Two race jackets exist, one Gary wore and kept which is part of his collection. The one in the picture was the spare in case of damage or loss to the other.
“Greg Hancock, twice World Champion, won the final race at Odsal during the Elite League Riders Championship in October 1997. As things have turned out, this has proved thus far to be the final race to be run at Odsal – a fact Greg was unaware of and illustrated the value of the race jacket.”
Mr Hancock said of the jacket: “I will treasure it.”
