Two Bradford actors will star in a major new television drama on New Year's Day.

Wibsey schoolboy Paul Wormwell plays the young son of Queensbury actress Rachel Lescovac in a black comedy called Dead Clever.

The all-star cast includes former Coronation Street actress Suranne Jones, Cold Feet star Helen Baxendale and Shameless actor Dean Lennox Kelly.

Dead Clever is about a wife who takes the ultimate revenge on her cheating husband.

Suranne Jones plays a woman called Julie whose world is turned upside down when she discovers her husband of ten years has been having an affair with her sister, and the child she thought was her nephew is in fact her husband's son.

Her first instinct is to kill her husband but, rather than risk life imprisonment for murder, she abandons the idea in favour of an intricate plan to gain revenge and start a new life.

Paul, 12, who attends Stardom School for Performing Arts in Shelf, plays the younger version of Julie's nephew' Nathan. Julie's cheating sister is played by Rachel Lescovac, who starred in recent ITV drama Losing Gemma.

Paul filmed Dead Clever last summer and was accompanied by his dad, also called Paul, on location in Bacup, Lancashire, and in Cheshire.

"It was my first TV role, it was really exciting and I learned a lot from being on set," he said. "The cast were very supportive. I had to do a stunt scene with Suranne Jones - her character started fighting with my character's mum and I had to jump on her back to try and stop her. Nathan is quite cheeky, I enjoyed playing him.

"I'd like to do more acting, I really want to be in Coronation Street. I auditioned for the part of Chesney's friend but I was too short so I'm hoping another role will come up."

Paul, who goes to Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College, is also a budding scriptwriter. "My drama teacher has been encouraging me, I wrote the scripts for a play about drugs and a Christmas play," he said.

Paul's mum Sharon said the family was looking forward to seeing his TV debut. "He wasn't nervous about filming, he took it all in his stride," she said.

Paul was inspired to take up acting by his mother's cousin, Allerton actor Lee Otway, who starred in Hollyoaks.

Paul is currently rehearsing for Stardom's show, Razzle Dazzle 'Em.

Dead Clever is on ITV1 at 9pm on January 1. Razzle Dazzle 'Em is at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, from Thursday, February 22, to Saturday, February 24. For tickets call 07803 175772.
