A Bradford charity has received the backing of the Archbishop of York John Sentamu.

He praised the work of BEACON (Bradford Ecumenical Asylum Concern) which supports asylum seekers.

Writing in the charity’s annual report for 2013, he said: “If it were not for projects like BEACON in Bradford, local authorities, the NHS and others, statutory agencies would be unable to cope with the problems which would come their way.”

He said the charities gave a degree of humanity and support to people in the asylum system.

The Archbishop’s words were welcomed by chairman of the BEACON executive Rita Armitage. She said: “His generous words of commendation are deeply appreciated.”
